UNP says new election system should be used after general elections
A communique issued by the United National Party states that the new election system should be used after the general elections.
It further reads that the United National Party is committed to fulfill the points laid out before the people, in the same way it was done for the victory of President Maithripala Sirisena.
The communique alleges that a group of Opposition MPs are attempting to draw back the people’s revolution.
Convening a press conference in Kandy on Saturday June 13, the United National Party elaborated on this.
General Secretary Kabir Hashim said that they are of the stance that the number of MPs should not be increased, adding that its important that the nation understands it. He added that they will be in favor of the proposal for a mixed system and that the United National Party is committed to move for elections with that election system.
